Mary Elizabeth Appelfeller
Mary Elizabeth AppelfellerCrucifixMary Elizabeth (Benson) Appelfeller, age 80, of LaRue, passed away peacefully at her home in LaRue on November 16, 2010 surrounded by family after a brave battle with Palsey and Cancer.

She was born November 10, 1930 in Hardin County outside LaRue to the late Esley and Anna (Wolf) Benson.  On November 24, 1951 she married Joseph E. (Joe) Appelfeller and he died December 27, 2001.

Mary will forever be remembered by family and friends as exuberant, fun loving, and caring. Her favorite times were when she was with family and friends especially when the gathering came to a point of  reminiscing and singing together. Her brightest moments might very well be the times she spent caring for loved ones.

Mary was a lifetime member of the former St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LaRue and was presently a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in  Kenton.

She is survived by sons; John (Lisa) Appelfeller of Fort Worth, Texas, Mark Appelfeller of Louisville, Colorado, and Matthew Appelfeller of LaRue. Daughters; Julie (William P.) Gracely of LaRue and Marna (Dave) Salmons of Bellefontaine,  Grandchildren; Darrah, Jennifer and Catherine Appelfeller, Will and Liz Gracely, Colman and Mark Salmons.  Brothers Jim Benson of Marion and Frank Benson of LaRue.  Sisters; Alice Cochran of TN, Irene Ballinger of CA, and Barbara Cronin of FL. And many loved nieces and nephews. Sisters-in law Rose Benson of LaRue and Bets Benson of MO.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by brothers Walter, Ed, John and Tom.

Family will receive friends at a celebration of life which will be held Friday November 26, 2010 from 4 to 8 PM at the Dry Lane Construction Party Center 376 Dry Lane Rd. LaRue, Ohio.
Those who wish may make contributions to the Heartland Hospice 685 Delaware, Ave. Marion, Ohio 43302.

The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue is helping the family with the arrangements.

We wish to extend to you our sincere sympathy in the loss of your Mother (sister) Mary.
Having owned the home next door to Joe and Mary for a number of years, we had many enjoyable conversations and happy times with this great couple.  We solved many problems of the world.
The face of LaRue is changing, and losing this wonderful couple is a sad part of that change.
Take care of yourselves in this time of loss and
remember the blessings they brought to the lives they touched.

I am so surprised and very, very sorry to hear of Mary's passing.  I was picturing her enjoying her 80th birthday party this coming Friday.  She was always so full of life, helpful and funny.  She saved my mother's life in 2001 when she visited her, found her having trouble breathing and drove her to her doctor in Kenton.  Mary was an integral part of my image of La Rue.  I never spoke with my mom over the phone without her mentioning Mary.  I send my deepest sympathy to all her family.  Mary will definitely leave a big hole in La Rue's heart.
    Sincerely,   Judy Cashwell
