Rolland E. “Rod” Farrington

Rolland E. “Rod” Farrington, age 86 of West Mansfield, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born August 5, 1924 in Richwood to the late Louie and Frances (Linn) Farrington.  He married the former Jean Eastman at their former home on Osborne Road and she survives in West Mansfield. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II.  A farmer all his life, he was also a truck driver and heavy equipment operator.  He loved motorcycles and could fix anything with an engine. Rod was as fun-loving as the day is long, but his life was chock full of family and friends because Rod valued people more than anything else in life.  Although he had two daughters he adored, Rod was like a father to many, especially his dear friend and neighbor, Kurt (Gertie) Lausecker and family.  His sincere loyalty, generosity, laughter and love of life were shared with his wife of 35 years, Jean.  Rod’s life was an example of what truly matters most, family and friends, and his legacy will continue to inspire all that knew him. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rhonda (Glen) Wright, Orland Park, Illinois and their daughter, Ashley Wright; Barbara (Monty) Kilfian, Huntsville and their daughter, Tahnee (Bob) Hales, and their children, Keatin and Kennae Hales; a step-son, Mark (Sabra) Kemp, Raymond and their children, Noah Kemp and his son, Jackson James Kemp; and Logan (Alicia) Rife and their daughter, Kailee; a step-daughter, Joyce (Mike) Cameron, Mt. Home, Arkansas and their son, Cole Cameron; two brothers, Robert (Vivian) Farrington Sanford, Florida; Richard (Dorothy) Farrington, Longwood, Florida; two sisters, Marilyn (Tom) Pugh and Sue (Floyd) Carpenter, both of West Mansfield and a sister-in-law, Pat Farrington, Richwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Terry Kemp; a granddaughter, Tonia Kilfian and a brother, Brad Farrington. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10:30 AM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Jerry McQueen officiating.  Pallbearers will be George Harshfield, Roger Pugh, Dan Carpenter, Don Carpenter, Charlie Wall, Nick Wall Jr, Michael Grose and Larry Farrington with Daniel Lauseker serving as honorary pallbearer.  He will be buried in York Cemetery next to his mother.  Military honors will be provided by Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday. You will be missed. He was a friend, neighbor, and like grandpa to me. I always knew Rod as a happy, and caring guy. He would always want to know what was going on in my life and was interested in what I was doing. One of the best memories I have of Rod as a younger child was going over to his house with Sandra to eat candy and drink pop and laugh. He would always tell us great stories and I always loved to listen to him. And I remember what a great man he was to my family and his family.
