I have fond memories of Richard back in school days. We would all ask him to bring his wheelchair over by us so we could talk to him. It would frustrate him when everyone would want him by their desk... He was always a pleasant face to see at Elgin's ball games when he took tickets in his adult years. I'm sure he will be sorely missed by all. God bless!

I always remember seeing and talking to him at Elgin sporting events. He always had a smile on his face. My prayers are with your entire family and the Elgin community as you have both lost a wonderful man.

I am very sorry to hear the news about Richard. I hope you will find strength in your family, friends, and faith during these difficult times. I still remember Richard with a huge smile, going into every home game, and not missing a game, what a wonderful spirit.

I'm so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I remember Richard as always having a smile. He was a friend to many, if not all, who crossed his path. Years after graduating, I'd still run into Richard at sporting events, and we'd spend a minute catching up. Rest well, my friend.

Richard will be greatly missed. I have nothing but wonderful memories of Richard from high school (class of '85). I always looked forward to visiting with him at school and especially at football games. He genuinely seemed to enjoy our marching band.
Richard was God's special gift to Elgin H.S. He and his family will never know how many of our lives & hearts he touched over the years. We were all blessed to know him and call him our friend. I only wish I had kept up with him over the years & miles.
We'll miss you, sweet, kind, Richard, and I hope to see you standing tall someday with our heavenly Father!
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God"
(2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

My deepest sympathy to the family of Richard. I will never forget the memories I have of him from school. ALL the students loved him. Everyone always gave a hand to help Richard get around so that he could be part of us, and done with so much love & support and in the spirit of having fun.
All my Thoughts, Love & Prayers,

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Richard. Such a kind, gentle and outgoing person from my days at Elgin. The times I remember most about Richard are as hall monitors and just having friendly chats and laughs.

I was in total shock when i saw Richards name in the obiturary...He Touched so many lives and people.I remember richard as a smiling, bubbly young man through our school yrs Class of 85...by looking at richard you knew he was physically handicapped, but he never let that stop him nor was he ever treated like he had one...Richard is no longer suffering or in a wheelchair,i can just imagine him now running on the streets of gold up in that shiny sky...Rest My Friend and until we meet again... Stand tall and proud for you are with your Heavenly Father now...My Love and Prayers go out to Richards Family..God Bless All of You!!!!!!!

So sorry for your loss. Richard was such a shining face in the halls of Elgin High School. I still remember seeing him at all the sporting events, taking tickets and always with a friendly attitude. I also remember the whole class standing and applauding when he received his diploma, he was an inspiration to so many of us.

It meant alot to have Richard at our Basketball games. His enthusiasm was unconditional...even when we had given up on ourselves, he didn't!! I also was his partner in Home Economics in 8th grade and he was quite the chef!!
I'm so sorry for your loss.

I wanted to share my warmest thoughts and best wishes for all of you. I graduated with Richard. Richard was a good soul and seeing him at the gate when I've come home was always a fun thing because there was always some good hearted teasing going on. Your efforts to make sure that Richard lived a "normal" life is very admirable because I know that it required a labor of love that only a family can give. Your efforts and Richard's example of making the most out of whatever situation life gives is a model for all of us to follow. I am sorry for your loss but I can say that the Elgin community celebrates Richard's life with you today.
