James W. Wright
James W. WrightJames W. Wright, age 71 of Richwood died early Wednesday morning, December 30, 2009 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.  He was born September 15, 1938 in a mining camp in Packard, Kentucky to the late Charlie and Mollie (Davis) Wright.

On June 28, 1969, he married the former Mary Linda Surber in Shawanee, Tennessee, and she survives in Richwood.

He was a member of Mt. Carmel #303 F&AM, Valley of Columbus AASR, Aladdin Shrine, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Buckeye Association of School Administrators, Ohio and Union County Retired Teacher Associations and the OSU Rebounders Club.

After graduating from Williamsburg City Schools in Williamsburg, Kentucky, he received a B.S. at Cumberland College in 1963.  He earned his Masters in Education from Xavier University from 1965-68 and received further post-graduate education from Bowling Green State University and Wright State University.

Jim devoted his life to education, having been a teacher at Springboro High School from 1963-67 before becoming Principal and Counselor at Jackson Center High School from 1967-69 and later Superintendent of Jackson Center Local Schools from 1969-1975.  He was Assistant County Superintendent of Clark County Schools in Springfield from 1975-1976.  On August 1, 1976 he became Superintendent of Union County Schools until his retirement on January 15, 1993.

In 1994 he was appointed to the Union County ADAMHS board and later that same year was named interim superintendent at North Union Local Schools.  His post-retirement career continued in 1996 when he served as interim treasurer for North Union Local Schools and in 1997 when he took a seat on Richwood Village Council.

Jim was an avid sports fan. He hardly missed a OSU Lady Buckeye basketball game. He could be seen most summer days lazing in his front porch swing and tending to his flowers. Jim also enjoyed his morning coffee trips to spend time with the coffee bunch. He was devoted to keeping in touch with friends and family by phone, visits or dinners out.

Besides his wife, Linda, he is survived by a sister, Lora Mae Groves, Detroit; sisters-in-law Thelma Wright and Alene Wright, Fremont, Wilma Chadwell, New Tazewell, Tennessee;brothers-in-law Don Surber, Grand Island, Florida and Charles Chadwell, New Tazewell, Tennessee, a host of nieces and nephews and special friends too numerous to mention.  He was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Petrey and Elizabeth Jones; brothers, J. B. Wright and Charlie Wright.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Richwood First Baptist Church. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Shriners Hospitals-Cincinnati, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH  45229 (support.shrinershospitals.org). Jim's support for Shriners Hospitals stems from the fact that a niece has received her care from the Shriners Crippled Children Hospital in Chicago for over 15 years

“Hold fast to your memories, those special moments, the laughter, the joys, the celebrations, the tears.  All these add up to the treasure of fond yesterdays that you shared in your life together.

Nothing I can say will take the hurt away.  Your memories will always be there for you and those Jimmy met along the way.

May the Lord thy God bless you in your sorrow.”

Linda

Anyone that ever crossed his path, knew that Jimmy was one of a kind.  He will be missed on many paths he walked.  Jimmy was, without any doubt, the most accomplished of "the kids of '48" and the "WHS Class of 1960".  Jimmy was considered a best friend for many, we all will miss him.

Dear Linda,

Arvilla and I were saddened to hear a few days back through Harold Davis about Jimmy's illness.  Then just a short time Harold reported he had died.

You have been in our thoughts and prayers since we first received the word.  We do wish it were possible to attend the Memorial Service celebrating his life.  Due to miles and schedule that is impossible.

Perhaps when you are in Williamsburg we can share personally our heart felt sympathy.

Arvilla graduated with Jimmy in 60' from Williamsburg.

Mrs. Wright,
You and your family have my deepest sympathies, in the passing of your husband.  It will be 37 years this May since I graduated from Jackson Center. I thought of you and Mr. Wright often and wondered how your lives turned out.  It appears he lead a rich and happy life.  I always get a chuckle when I remember the time he caught us girls soaping the windows of the high school.  Boy, did we run!
Again with deepest sympathies on your loss.

Debbie (Mitchell) Knief
