Arthur D. Cunningham
Arthur D. CunninghamArthur D. Cunningham, age 89, formerly of LaRue, died Sunday May 3, 2009 at 2:40 AM at Arlington Good Samaritan in Arlington, Ohio. He was born September 29, 1919 in Mt. Blanchard, Ohio to the late Dean and Opal (Bowman) Cunningham.  On May 2, 1943 he married Jean Harvey and she died January 10, 1986.
Surviving are three children; Ann (James) Downing of Ada, OH, Carol (James) White of Waukesha WI, and Stephen (Mona) Cunningham of Ft. Wayne IN. Eight Grandchildren; Timothy (Beth) Downing, Sean (Tracy) Downing,  Erin Downing Brendan Downing, Jennifer (Brad) Esch, Brian White, David White and Michael (Sarah) Cunningham. Six Great Grandchildren; Regan, Maxwell, Mason, and Madison Downing, Emily and Robert Esch.  He was preceded in death by Great Grandsons Conor and Quinn Downing and Sister Mary Viet.
Mr. Cunningham graduated from Mt. Blanchard High School in 1937. Attended Bliss College in Columbus. Veteran of the U S Army where he served as a Second Lieutenant in Europe with the 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion. Received two Purple Hearts for wounds he received in action. After the war he served as an accountant for the Ohio Farm Bureau retiring after 30 years. His final position was as county manager of the Marion County Landmark.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was kind and generous, a lover of the outdoors and active until his final illness. Everyone who knew him referred to him as a “Nice man” and a “Gentleman.”
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday May 7, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ada, Ohio.  Father David Young will officiate.  Burial in the LaRue Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday.

I didn't know Uncle Art well, but what I did know shows that he was nice man, with a good sense of humor. I will miss him.
