Mary Elizabeth Monson

Mary Elizabeth (Davis) Monson, 92, died Sunday morning, August 24, 2008 at Hillside Country Living, Bryan, Ohio.

Born November 1, 1915, to Walter H. and Vesta (Parish) Davis in rural Jackson Township near Richwood, Ohio.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, Merrit Monson; her parents, Walter H. and Vesta Davis; her sister Ruth (Davis) Giffin, and her brother Blake Davis.

Survivors include her loving daughters, Bettie Finken, Bryan, OH; and June (Jerry) Boyd, Ft. Smith, Arkansas; Four grandchildren, Tami Roushia, Bryan, OH; Jill (Shane) Roughley, Ft. Smith, Arkansas; Julie Boyd, Black Mountain, North Carolina; Jeff (Keri) Boyd, Springdale, Arkansas; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Elizabeth Roushia, Tyler Merrit Roushia, Andrew Jarret Roughley, Lauren Alaine Roughley, Caroline Ashby Boyd and Carlee Elizabeth Boyd.

Elizabeth attended Wiley School from 1st through 3rd grade then to Essex-Jackson Rural School for grades 4 through 11. Her senior year was at Richwood H.S. She graduated from Ohio Northern University at Ada, OH with a 2 year teaching degree. She taught first grade 3 years at Peoria School.

In 1938, she married Merrit Monson. After their marriage, they lived in Vanlue, OH. Elizabeth was a fulltime homemaker enjoying sewing and embroidery. In 1946, they bought a farm near Richwood. Elizabeth helped with the farming and had a big garden.

Elizabeth enjoyed traveling with her parents during her teen years. She and Merrit vacationed each summer in Northern Minnesota. She enjoyed journaling, giving monologues and making scrapbooks and photo albums. She and Merrit spent many winters in Haines City, Florida.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, August 29 at 11:00am at Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Burial will be in the Price Cemetery, minister will be the Rev. Larry Snavely. Friends may call Thursday 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Rush Creek (Essex) United Methodist Church, 32697 State Rt. 37, Richwood, OH 43344.

I would like to express my sympathy to Bettie and family.
I helped take care of Mary at the Hillside Nursing home. She was a wonderful lady she loved talking about her family. Also she told stories and proudly showed pictures of the loved ones in her life. Your family was very Blessed to have a mother and grandma like Mary.
You are in my prayers and thoughts.
I will miss her gentle spirit.

I know how difficult this time is for you and I know the Lord will help you and your family through it.

I remember driving your Mom and Dad to and from Florida and the good conversations we had. They were a special Aunt and Uncle!
