Harold E. Baker

Harold Elwood Baker, 83, of Richwood passed away early Thursday morning August 16, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Delaware, OH on April 23, 1924, the son of the late Ralph and Clarabelle (Ingle) Baker.  His sister, Betty Bringardner of Canton is deceased.

He was married September 5, 1948 to Evelyn A. Somerlot in the Richwood First United Methodist Church, and she survives.

A graduate of Delaware Willis High School in 1943, he entered the U. S. Marine Corps in January of 1944.  After eight weeks of basic training, he was sent to the Pacific to participate in the Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa Campaigns.  His 2nd division was then sent to Nagasaki after it was destroyed by an atomic bomb.  He was discharged in April, 1946.

Returning to Delaware after the war, he then took up upholstery work, coming to Richwood in 1960 as owner of the Richwood Auto and Boat Upholstery.  Boat upholstery was his specialty.  He retired in 1990.
He was a member of the Richwood American Legion Baccarat Post 40, the Richwood Lions Club, Richwood Civic Center and Richwood Golf League.  He was a former long-time member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Delaware.

His favorite hobbies were gardening, golf, sports and fishing at Lake Erie with his family.

Surviving are two daughters and one son:  Barbara (Bob) Williams of Richwood; Rosemary (Edgar) Bell of Delaware; Bruce (Sonni Dunn) Baker of Prospect; and eight grandchildren:  Anne Williams (Doug) Park and son Carter of Marion; Kathleen Williams (Kayne) Kirby of Hilliard; Clint Bell and son Cody and daughter Mackensie of Westerville; Adam (Nikki Wandling) Bell and sons A. J. and Joshua of Delaware; Lori Lee Bell of Delaware; Michael (Nichole Englund) Baker of Delaware; Kurt Baker of Columbus and Diana Baker (Cory) Valentine of Westerville.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 20, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Stofcheck Funeral Home, Richwood with Rev. Doug Ford officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery where the Richwood Area Veterans will conduct military honors.  Friends may call from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday.
