Kathryn E. Lauer
Kathryn E. Lauer of Prospect passed peacefully at her home on Tuesday morning, July 17, 2007.  She was born on September 27, 1925 to the late Glen and Ophal (Teets) Carr.

Kathryn married Samuel Lauer Jr. on February 7, 1946.  They celebrated and shared forty-eight years together before his passing in January 1995.  They raised seven children on their farm in Prospect:

• Janet Lauer Kumar, her husband, Surinder and son, Daven, of Flower Mound, Texas.
• Ronald Charles “Butch” Lauer, who passed in June 1999
• Donn Lauer; his wife Patricia, son, Kevin and daughter, Kimberly of Raleigh, North Carolina
• Kay Jean Lauer Furlong; her husband, Bill and step-sons, David, Jason and wife Kerri, of Prospect, Ohio
• Dee Ann Lauer Brant; her husband, Bob, daughter, Krista, son, Joe and son Matthew, who passed in March 2004, of Naperville, Illinois
• Samuel P. Lauer III of Prospect, Ohio
• Kim Lauer; his wife, Sandee, daughters, Bethani, and Kelsi and son, Nic, of Prospect, Ohio

She was one of seven children.  Her brothers Dick, Bill and Robert have already passed over.  Surviving are her brothers, Paul Carr, Bucyrus and Ronald Carr, Prospect, along with her sister, Marilyn Smith, Caledonia.

Kathryn was surrounded by many other loving family members, special friends, neighbors and community, both near and far.

Throughout her life she was an active member in the PTA, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, CCL, Order of the Eastern Star and her home town of Prospect.  She had a spirit of giving and helping others who needed a little extra “tender loving care”.

Kathryn was a talented and creative individual – she loved to write, paint and spend healing moments in her rock garden or with family and friends.  She was a spiritual person who believed:  “What our children see in the world depends on what we show them.”

God Bless you, Mom!  You have touched the hearts of many and we all love you.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 20, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Prospect  with Rev. Russell Makant officiating.  Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.  Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, Thursday, July 19 at the Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:

• The Prospect Battle Run Volunteer Fire Department
• St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Prospect
• FACES4 (a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public on the dangers of speeding on our roads) in memoriam of grandson Matthew.  Families Against Chronic Excessive Speed4, 40 Shuman Blvd., Suite 160, Naperville, IL  60563

To all of you - -  our sincere condolences to the family of Kate.  She was such a lovely person and a beloved friend, her life touched by tragedy these past few years.

I know she did many good things in our church, St. Paul's Lutheran - - and she was my husband Don's "other girl friend".  Every time we saw her, that was his greeting to her.

We will miss her very much.

I was very saddened to read of your Mothers's death. She always had such kind words for me after I would sing at church. When I left Prospect, we did communicate for a while. She was a wonderful mother and I know she will be so missed by all of you. My whole family sends their thoughts and prayers as you go on without her love and guidance.

Lauer Family,

I am sorry I could not come to Kate's viewing this evening. I re-injured my back and Karen had to take me to the chiropractor this afternoon.

I have many good memories of the Lauer family and wish to send my regrets.

In this time of loss, it is good to have a hope beyond the grave.

Sincerely,
Stan Kirby

I am so sorry to hear that Kate has passed. She was a wonderful lady. I have always given her credit for being the perfect American mother...right up there with Joan Clever. At a time during our high school years, she was my second mother. I loved her dearly...just as I did Sam. I have fond memories of both Sam and Kate and her making a huge amount of snacks for us to take to Cedarville, MI when we went snowmobile riding, etc. Kate had a keen sense of people and she kept close tabs on everyone. She and Sam are part of the greatest generation that saved the world. Sam, with his service to the USA and Kate with her support at home when our country was at war across Europe. They were great parents, great role models, and importantly...great  people. I will miss them and I will always remember them.

My condolences go out to all the Lauers...we have lost a great Icon in our community.
