George Lafayette Wood Sr.
George Lafayette Wood Sr., 84, of Radnor, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at home.  He was born June 14, 1923 in Broadway, OH to the late Walter A. and Ila Gertrude (Dunnan) Wood.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses.  George was a farmer most of his life.  He also worked at the Huber Shop in Marion; he was a pilot; an inventor, holding current patents; manufacturer of farm equipment, founding Wood's Carriers, Inc. and had owned the Ohio Edison Power Plant at Newman's.

On June 22, 1946 he married Starling Robinson, who survives in Radnor.  He is also survived by 1 son, George Jr. (Nancy) Wood, Radnor; 5 daughters, Patty (Glyn) Day, Marble Falls, TX; Jayne (James) Uhrig, Danville, KY; Ila Joanne (William) Campbell, Delaware; Robin (Roger) Mayes, Delaware; Kristen (Todd) Pelfrey, New Haven, IN; 24 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by 1 grandson.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, July 6 at 7:00 P.M. in the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses, 380 Hills-Miller Rd., Delaware with Peter Hemstreet officiating.  Private graveside services will take place at Shoup (Thompson Twp.) Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses, Delaware.

I want to send my deepest sympathy to everyone in the family.  George was like a second grandfather to me.  He will be missed very much.

We're are sorry to hear the passing of George.  He will be truly missed. I'm sorry,  I didn't spend more time with him.  He had a wealth of knowledge to share.  Some of the things I remember about George and very thankful that he and Ralph Brady came to Kitchener, Canada to pick us up because our truck broke down on a fishing trip.  Not many people would do that.  He loved to fly.  He helped my father and I out when we about ran out of gas in our Piper Cub by giving us some tractor gas, so we could make it back to Marion.
