G. Nevin Shuey MD
G. Nevin Shuey MD age 75 of Massillon passed away Thursday at the Massillon Campus of Affinity Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1931 in Prospect, Ohio to Hoy Cyril and Zelpha Mary (Grooms) Shuey.

He was grateful that all his younger years were spent in Prospect and returned there whenever possible. He is also very grateful that such a small rural area was able to provide him with a scholarship to medical school. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1953 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1957, both from The Ohio State University. He interned at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Columbus. For several years during college he served an internship at Massillon City Hospital. He, with Edward Hill M.D., formed a medical partnership that covered the Beach City and Massillon area for many years. They practiced general medicine, obstetrics and anesthesia. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association and Stark County Medical Society all his professional years. He also was a member of the American Board of Family Practice, successfully completing four consecutive recertification periods being awarded four consecutive awards of merit and was a member of Massillon Community Hospital Medical Staff, serving as president in 1975. He enjoyed flowers and plants in his yard, reading and especially music. He played in the Clinton Community Band and the Tired Tigers. He was also a member of the Retired Executives and Professional Mens’ Club of Greater Stark County. He was a life member of the Prospect United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William and Robert Shuey.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Hansen Shuey with whom he shared 41 years of marriage; son & daughter in law, Charles & Christine Shuey; daughter & son in law, Michelle & David Pelles. Also there are twin granddaughters, Megan and Makayla Shuey and grandson, D.J. Pelles all of Columbus and one on the way. And several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon and on Monday from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the Gehm–Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect. Funeral services in Prospect will begin at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. David L. Hoffman officiating.  Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice of Visiting Nurse or the charity of the donor’s choice.
