Leland Merle Kelly
FlagLeland Merle Kelly, 83, of West Palm Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 10,
1998, after having been ill for several years.
He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the American Legion,
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge F&AM and the
Shriners. A retired electrical contractor, he was a 55-year member of the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran
of World War II and was mayor of Richwood from 1962-67.
He was born Jan. 4, 1915, in McComb to the late Arba Merle and Anna
Schroder Kelly and was predeceased by a brother.
He is survived by his wife, Vera M. Beers Kelly whom he married in October
1935; three daughters, Dr. Carol Sue Kelly of Simi Valley, Calif., Marilyn
Kay Rabbitt of North Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Patricia Ann Kelly
of West Palm Beach; a son, Merle E. Kelly of Marion; 12 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; a brother, Toby Kelly of Marion; and a sister
Genevieve Beers of Marion.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Richwood
First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will officiate
and burial will be in Claibourne Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation
or Hospice of the Palm Beaches.
The Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood is in charge of arrangements.
