Edgar H. Roberts
CrucifixEdgar H. Roberts, 84, of Radnor died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Grady
Memorial Hospital in Delaware.
He was a retired farmer. He was a 1936 graduate of Radnor High School
and earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural engineering from
the Ohio State University. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Force
during World War II, flying 50 missions and earning the Distinguished
Flying Cross and the Presidential Citation. He was a member of Alpha
Zeta Fraternity, served on the board of the Prospect Farmers Exchange,
was master of Pomona Grange and master and secretary of Radnor Grange.
He drove a school bus for Buckeye Valley schools for 36 years and was
active in the Ohio Association of Public School Employees, serving in
several offices, including president. He served as president of the
Athletic Boosters and Band Boosters for Buckeye Valley and was a member
of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Delaware.
He was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Radnor to the late Emery L. and Susanna Guy
Roberts and was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Roberts.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Nugent Roberts whom he married Feb. 7,
1948; four sons, Tom (Joan) Roberts of Colleyville, Texas; Daniel
Roberts and John (Tammy) Roberts of Radnor and Joseph Roberts of Athens,
Ga.; a daughter, Mary (Tom) Fernald of Bexley; seven grandchildren,
Kristi, Timothy, Katie, Jillena, Nathan, Julia and Nicholas Roberts; a
sister, Helen Collins of Prospect; and a brother, Guy (Betty) Roberts of
Radnor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's
Church. The Rev. Kevin Kavanagh will officiate and burial will be at the
Prospect Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by
the Marion County Veterans Council. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.
Sunday at the Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home where a vigil of prayer will
be held at 5 p.m.
