Evelyn Hart Grindell, 91, formerly of Richwood, died Sunday, Dec. 7,
2003, at Doctor's West Hospital. She was retired as a teacher with the North Union schools and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richwood, OSU Alumni Association and Retired Teachers Association. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the former Mount Carmel Chapter 42 Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during wartime. She received her pilot's license in 1942 after teaching aviation to fourth grade students and her master's thesis on aviation in elementary education remains on file in the FAA library in Washington, D.C. She was born April 28, 1912, in Franklin County to the late Edgar and Bertha Hart and was predeceased by a brother, Virgil Hart and a sister, Cynny Hart. She married Leo Grindell Aug. 1, 1945, and he died in 1981. She is survived by three daughters, Susan (John) Tomlinson of LaCrosse, Wis., Robyn (Frank) Miller of Ventura, Calif., and Reba (Dave) Fisher of Commercial Point; a son, Jim (Deb) Grindell of Carrollton, Texas; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Alan Perkins will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Humane Society, P.O. Box 414, Marysville.
