Judge Robert Frank Allen
Robert Frank Allen, 97, husband, father, lawyer and judge, died
Saturday, June 14, 2003, at his residence.
He attended Richwood High School and graduated from Harding High School
in Marion in 1924 and from Ohio Northern Law School in Ada. He was
admitted to the Ohio State Bar Sept. 10, 1930. His offices in the
general practice of law were Robert F. Allen, 1930 to 1938; Allen and
Allen, 1938 to 1948 with F. LeRoy Allen; Robert F. Allen, 1948 to 1956;
Allen and Evans, 1956 to 1960 with Robert E. Evans Jr., totaling 30
years as a lawyer and 19 years as a probate-juvenile judge. He was a
member of the Ohio State and Union County bar associations for more than
70 years and was a past president, is listed in The Lawyer's Directory
of Ohio and was a member of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity. He was a
member of the Richwood First United Methodist Church, a past Sunday
School superintendent and past delegate to the Annual Conference of the
United Methodist Church at Lakeside.
He was a full lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve in World War II, a
member of the American Legion and a life member of the VFW. He was a
70-year member of Mount Carmel Lodge 303 F&AM in Richwood, Ancient and
Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus, for more than 60 years,
Knights Templar Commandery in Marion, Aladdin Temple Shrine in Columbus,
past president and charter member of more than 60 years of the former
Richwood Lions Club and a colonel of the Honorable Order of the Kentucky
Colonels. He was the author of "A Rugged Man's Life," a fond narrative
of his father and "Lawyers Are Peculiar," an earthy description of
lawyers and judges.
He was born in Jackson Township, Union County, Jan. 6, 1906, to the late
Frank Calvin and Rosella Bishop Allen and was predeceased by a son, Noel
Robert Allen. He married Mildred Lavina Fenstermacher June 15, 1927, in
Newport, Ky., and she died Feb. 13, 2000, after 73 years of marriage.
He is survived by two daughters, Polly Jo (Robert) Green of Frankfort,
Ky., and Sally Ann (Edward) Robe of Athens, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and
32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Richwood First
United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will officiate and burial
will be at the Price Cemetery at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Friends may call
from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church where a Masonic service will be
held at 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund, 18 S.
Fulton St., Richwood 43344, or Hardin Hospice Care, 917 E. Columbus St.,
Suite C, Kenton, Ohio 43326.
Arrangements are being handled by the Ballinger Funeral Home.
