Lowell M. Schmidt, 68, 1348 LaRue-Marseilles Road, died Wednesday evening Aug. 26, 1987 in Marion General Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Big Island Township, Marion County, Sept. 5, 1918, a son of the late Daniel W. and Isabelle Mon- tgomery Schmidt. He was retired from Marion Power-Shovel Co. after 39 years of employment, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Schmidt was a member of New Bloomington United Methodist Church and Local 1281 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He is survived by his wife, the former Jane Hickman, whom he married Oct. 18, 1942; a daughter, Mrs. Erik (Cheryl) Johnson, LaRue; two brothers, Raymond P. Schmidt, LaRue, and Charles Richard Schmidt, Marion; and two grandchildren. The service wil be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Stofcheck Funeral Home, LaRue, with the Rev. Jerry Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Agosta Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. and in the evening Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to New Bloomington UM Church or to the American Cancer Society.
