Russell E. "Coony" Coonfare, 64, of Richwood, died unexpectedly Tuesday, 1997 afternoon at Marion General Hospital.
He was a retired construction foreman employed by the Dodge-Irian Co. of Columbus and he owned and operated Mike's Dairy Bar in Richwood. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richwood and had served on the Richwood Village Council and many town committees. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the American Legion and Amvets in Centerburg. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was born Sept. 13,1932, in Coshocton to the late D. F. and Hazel Barr Coonfare. He married Kathleen "Katie" Litzenberg in Key West, Fla., on Feb. 14, 1972, and she survives. He is also survived by a stepson, Brian (Dondra) Sands of Marysville; grandchildren, Joshua and Kasandra; and brothers, Don (Mary) of West Jefferson and Cedric of Centerburg. The Rev. Scott Nichols will officiate at a memorial service which will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The family will receive friends following the service and burial of his cremains will be held at a later date at East View Cemetery in Centerburg.
