Babe R. Blankenship
Babe R. Blankenship, 70, of Green Camp died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998 at his home.
He retired in 1990 after 25 years with the Ohio Department of Transportation as an inspector. He, also with his wife, Ollie, owned and operated the White Swan Restaurant for 25 years. They then owned Babe and Ollie's Grocery in Green Camp for five years. With his family, he was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He was a member of the Richwood Golf League, the Kings Mill Senior League and Rocky River Fish Club.
A veteran of World War II in the Navy, he was a member of the Prospect K of P Lodge, life member of the Elks Lodge #32 in Marion, a 51-year life-member of the Verne I. Mounts American Legion Post 368 in Prospect. He was also an active member of the Elgin Athletic Boosters.
He was bom Aug. 24, 1927, in Middlebome, W.Va., to Lacy L. and Lula Amos Blankenship. On Feb. 8, 1950, in New Castle, Indiana, he married Olive Ann Zolman and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons and daughter-in-laws, Lacy (Eva) Blankenship of Prospect, Lonn (Gabrielle) Blankenship of Panama City, Fla., Lari (Brenda) Blankenship of Prospect and Lyle (Lynn) Blankenship of Green Camp; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa (Lloyd) Smith of Piqua; three brothers, Lonn Blankenship of Pittsburgh, Pa., Norell Blankenship of Weir-ton, W.Va. and Conrad Blankenship of Wheeling, W. Va.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood with the Rev. Fred Cheney officiating. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Marysville with military graveside services to be conducted by the Prospect Legion and the Marion County United Veterans Council. Pall bearers will be his sons and grandsons.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
