Gail Moyer Engle
Gail Moyer Engle, 83, died Sunday, Oct. 11 at his Cape Coral, Florida residence; He retired from Pan Americain World Airlines in 1975 after 42 years service as a flight engineer/pilot. He served on the first Commercial crew of the Boeing 747 and was featured in Life magazine's June 18, 1956 issue which featured the History of Aviation.
Born May 28, 1915, he graduated from Parks Air College in 1942 and served in the Air Transport Command for three years and flew the Berlin airlift in 1948 during World War II.
February 1, 1936 he married his wife of 62 years, Ethyl Swartz in Richwood. They moved to Cape Coral in 1974 from Hicksville, New Yorkwhere they resided for 26 years.
He was a member of Cape Coral First United Methodist Church where he served as head usher for ten years.
Surviving are a son Philip Engle of Freeport, NY; two daughters Jane Carpenter of Collierville, TN and Diane. Alenitsch of Shamong, NJ; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The Rev. Joseph Rhea will conduct graveside services Saturday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m. at Price Cemetery. Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood was in charge of local arrangements.
