Ellen Speyer
Ellen Speyer, 66, of Richwood died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at her home. She retired in 1994 from the Union County Treasure's Office and was a former owner of the Speyer's Dime Store in Richwood. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LaRue, the Union County Republican Women, Order of Eastern Star and the farm bureau.
She was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Prospect to the late J. Guy and Ocie Pearl Rush Hoffman and was predeceased by a son, Gene L. Speyer; a grandson, Chris Thogmartin; and two brothers, Melvin Guy and Edger Leroy Hoffman.
She is survived by her husband, Paul J. Speyer whom she married Dec. 30, 1950 in LaRue; three sons, Joseph P. (Martha) Speyer of Richwood, Samuel J. (Phyllis) Speyer of Garner, N.C., and James M. (Heather) Speyer of Forest; two daughters, Julia (Don) Thogmartin of Mount Vernon and Sally (Charles) Corbett of Bellevue; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Meg Speyer, Allison and Samantha Corbett and Logan Speyer; a great-granddaughter, Lauran Bolton; three brothers, Robert J. (Korena) Hoffman of Ashville, N.C., Frank (Gladys) Hoffman of Prospect and Max (Sue) Hoffman of Mor-ral; five sisters, Sarah Louise (Harry) Haynes of Kenton, Mary Fry of Plain City, Jessie Raymond of Matairie, La., Wanda (Ed) Shark of Marion and Jeanette (Nolan) Jacobs of Reserve, La.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LaRue. The Revs. Joseph Losh and David Hoffman will officiate and burial will be at the Price Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood where a prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rich wood-North Union Public Library, 4 E. Ottawa St., Richwood; Ohio 43344, or the March of Dimes Foundation, 1500 W. Third Ave., Columbus, Ohio, 43212-2876.
