Vernon M. Thomas, 89, of Richwood died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
He was the owner of the Vern Thomas Chevrolet dealership in Richwood for 21 years, from 1952 to 1973. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of American Legion Baccarat Post 40 and VFW Post 870. He was a member of the Richwood Lions Club, Richwood Chamber of Commerce and St. Jude's Cancer Research Center. He was active in the Richwood Service Center and had served on the Richwood Fair Board. He was bom Oct. 30,1909, in Livermore, Ky., to the late Hubert and Lydia Morton Thomas and was predeceased by three brothers. He married Ann Buckingham Nov. 16, 1940, and she died in April 1982. He is survived by a son, Thomas B. Thomas of Brackenridge, Pa.; two brothers, Hubert S. Thomas of Leitchfield, Ky., and Philip E. Thomas of Madisonville, Ky.; a sister, Helen C. Boyken of Livermore, Ky.; and special friends and care givers Pat Reese, Bobbie Ankrum, Frances Whitt and Cindy Bullion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Richwood First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Baccarat Post 40 and VFW Post 870.
