LARUE — Juanita Lucille Battles, age 80. of 647 N. Section St., LaRue. Ohio, died Saturday. May 22. 1999. at 10:50 p.m. at Raven-wood Care Center in Kenton. Ohio.
She was born July 10, 1918. in Union County, to the late Elmer and Helen (Atkinson I Jolliff. On April 10, 193&. she married Nelson James Battles, and he died July 15,1974. She is survived by two sons. N. James (Patricia) Battles of Kenton. Lawrence J. (Karen) Battles of Whitehouse, Ohio; two daughters. Mrs. Helen Dulin of Shirley. Ind., Mrs. Jane (Harald; Wyndham of Pocatello, Idaho; 10 grandchildren: 13 great-grandchildren: two brothers, Donald Jolliff of Marysville. Gerald Jolliff of Richwood; one sister, Mrs. Sharon (Joseph) Robinson of Vandalia, Mich. One brother. Bernard Jolliff, and two sisters, Virginia Croft and Jane Stewart, are deceased. Mrs. Battles was a retired kindergarten teacher at Elgin West in LaRue. She earned her bachelor of science degree in education with honors from Ohio State University at the age of 55. Before her teaching career, she was a teachers aid at MARCA, and after retirement, she enjoyed tutoring students, which she was doing as late as last year. She was a member of the LaRue United Methodist Church, the Happie Tyme Club, and former member of the Wolf Creek Grange. She was an avid reader, loved sports and enjoyed quilting. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at 10 a.m. at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in LaRue, Ohio. Minister will be the Rev. Joanne A. Powers. Burial in the Wolf Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in LaRue after 2 p.m. on Tuesday and also the evening. Those who wish may make contributions to either the Elgin West PTO or the Holliday-Henkle Library.
