Loy E. George
Loy E. George, 71, of Richwood died early Saturday morning, Dec. 25, 1999, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after collapsing uptown in Richwood on Monday.
He was born in Marion on July 25, 1928, to Harry Robison and Mattie Marie Finley George. On. Nov. 25, 1951, at the Essex United Methodist Church, he married the former Rebecca Blue and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard (Danae) George of Richwood and Tom (Virve) George of University Heights; three grandchildren, Nicolas, Sarah and Erik George; a sister, Ruth George of Prospect; and a nephew, Randal Conrad of Castalia.
A sister, A. Joan George Conrad, preceded him in death. Loy was a 1946 graduate of the Magnetic Springs High School and attend-ed The Ohio State University. He then entered the Naval Reserve, where he participated in the active reserve for 38 years.
He was retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation on April 30, 1991, after more than 42 years of service. He retired as the state field supervisor for the advertising device control department and for a large part of his career with ODOT was on a survey crew. Following his retirement, he worked with the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood.
He was an active member of the Richwood First United Methodist church, serving in many capacities throughout the years. He currently was serving on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and was a member of the Union County Historical Society. He played golf in the Senior Golf League at the King's Mill Golf Course and the Richwood Golf League.
Some of his past activities included working with the local Boy Scouts, serving as a former Park Board member, president of the former Richwood Lions Club, and volunteering as a village fireman for more than 40 years. He Was twice Past Master of the Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge #303 F&AM in Richwood, Ambassador for the Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, member of Aladdin Tempt, Columbus and of the Union County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Mount Carmel Chapter #42 OES and social member of the Richwood VFW Post 870.
Bis joys in life included gardening, refinishing furniture, bicycling and being with his family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Richwood First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joseph Rhea and Wilbur Boyer offi-cioating Burial will be in the Price Cemetery, where veteran grave side ser-vices will be conducted by the Richwood VFW Post 870 and American Legion Baccarat Post 40.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas and Erik George, Randal, Brad, Carl and Bob Conrad and Joel Smith.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Stofcheck
Funeral Home in Richwood, where there will be Masonic Services at 3:30
p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Richwood Emergency Squad Association in care of the funeral home.
