LARUE — Elbon V. "Tom" Tucker, age 78, of 175 N. Swain Ave, LaRue, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at 11:55 a.m. at his residence.
He was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Buffalo, W.Va, to the late Brady and Kate (Sayre) Tucker. On July 28, 1946, he married Gladys Smyers, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Pam (Jay) Murphy of Las Vegas, Nev, and Mrs. Carol (James) Thompson of LaRue, Ohio; one son, Tommy L. Tucker; one brother, Donald C. Tucker of Palm City, Fla.; two sisters, Roberta Wood of LaRue and Anna Jean Keller of Barberton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Steven Murphy of Akron, Dawn Murphy of Las Vegas, Ryan Thompson and Kellie Tucker, both of Akron; two great-grandchildren, Tessa Thompson and Aaron Thompson, both of LaRue. One sister, Rosalie Tucker, is deceased. Mr. Tucker is a retired general manager from General Metals Powder Co. of Akron. He was a World War II Army veteran, member of the Phillippi-Clement Post 101 America Legion, LaRue, life member of the DAV Buckeye State Chapter, member of the Cuyahoga Falls Lodge 735 F & AM and 33rd degree Mason of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.Valley of Akron, retired captain of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary Unit 1114 of Summit County, member of the LaRue Area Park Board and chairman of the LaRue Tree Commission. Funeral services will be held Saturday. Feb. 5. 2000. at 10 a.m. at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in LaRue, Ohio. Minister will be the Rev. Darlene Weidner. Burial in the LaRue Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral in LaRue from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday. Masonic services will be held Friday at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by the LaRue Lodge 463 F & AM. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Phillippi-Clement Post 101 American Legion, LaRue. Those who wish may make contributions to the Quality of Life Hospice in care of Marion General Hospital.
