Dorothy Mae Olexa
Dorothy Mae Olexa, 74, of Richwood, formerly of Hamilton, died Tuesday, Oct. 3,2000, at her home following an extended illness.
She was a dedicated pastor's wife, having served with her husband at United Methodist churches in Obi, N.Y., Brush Valley, Pa., Bethel church in the Salvation Army on Long Island, N.Y.
She received certification from the Duke University School of Dentistry as a dental assistant and was a founding member of the Keeley Dental Assistants Association and a member of the Ohio Dental Assistants Association and the American Dental Assistants Association in which she served as president. She had worked for Dr. Paul Gaylord in Hamilton and at the Union County Extension pffice from 1981 to 1986.
She was born May 25, 1926, in Hamilton to the late Edward Arthur and Flora Mae Bowman Zimmerman. She married the Rev. John F. Olexa Aug. 18, 1968, and he died March 24, 1981.
She is survived by a brother, Edward A. (Sylvia) Zimmerman Jr. of Rich-wood; a sister, Shirley (George) Schmitt of Crestwood, Ky.; nieces and nephews, Jenny (David) Morris of Delaware, Edward A. (Lori) Zimmerman III of Radnor, Christopher Zimmerman of Richwood and Jillanne (Rick) Raggard of Crestwood, Ky.; great-nieces and -nephews, Daniel and Mary Zimmerman of Radnor, Hannah Raggard of Crestwood and Nathan and Rebekah Morris of Delaware; and six stepchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Richwood. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will officiate and friends may call at the church from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. Calling hours will also be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Charles Young Funeral Home in Ross, followed by burial in the Darrtown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Richwood at 18 S. Fulton St.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood.
