Irene L. Schmelzer
Irene L. Schmelzer, 95, of Richwood died Wednesday, Feb.7, 2001, at Carriage Court in Marysville.
She was a farm wife, a charter and 75-year member of Union Baptist Church, member of the Richwcod Garden Club, charter member of the Girl Scouts in Kenton and former member of the LaRue Homemakers. She was known for her exceptional ability to crochet.
She was born Oct. 14, 1905, in Kenton to the late Raymond David and Susan Viola Myers Briggs and was predeceased by two sisters. She married Herman Schmelzer March 2,1927, in Kenton and he died Oct. 10,1972.
She is survived by a son, John David (Anna) Schmelzer of Mount Victory; a daughter, Linda (Martin) Beatty of Glen Burnie, Md.; a stepdaughter, Ruth Turner of Ada; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Austin Briggs of Dundee, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Revs. Peter Miller and Ernest Bloom will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richwood Civic Center, 235 Grove St., Richwood, Ohio 43344.
