Robert E. Jones
Robert E. Jones, 85, of Prospect died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Marion General Hospital.
He was a 1933 graduate of Prospect High School and a lifetime member of the Prospect United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent. He was a retired farmer and drove a school bus for the Elgin school district for 20 years. He was a charter member of the Marion County Regional Planning Commission, a charter member of the Marionaires Bar-bershop Quartet and member and past president of the Prospect Senior Citizens, for whom he had served as travel chairman. He was a former Farm Bureau president and former 4-H advisor.
He was a member of Sojourners Lodge 653 F&AM in Marion and for 64 years he was a member of the former Prospect Lodge 444 F&AM where he was Past Master and treasurer for 50 years. He was a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite and the Shrine Club.
He was bom Sept. 7, 1915, in Radnor to the late Edward T. and Mae Roberts Jones and was predeceased by a brother, Donald Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Irene Knachel Jones whom he married March 27, 1938, in Prospect; two daughters, Ruby (Jon) Miller of Washington, 111., and Marian (Dick) Blair of Prospect; a son, Dale (Joyce Ann) Jones of Prospect; grandchildren, Jon (Casey) Miller, Suzette (Sean) Lester, Kim (Mark) Nichols, Chris (Tina) Jones, Teresa (Kenneth) Bevis, Tammie Ellett, Valinda (Bill) Klingler, Valrie (Doug) Gay, Vickey (Mike) Martin and Vera (Doug) Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Emily and Jacob, Hannah and Brittany, Michelle, Richard and Jennifer, Derek, Chelsea, Robert and Sam, Noelle and Taylor, Jereme, Nathan, Rachel, Meghan and Billy, Josh and Justin, Kyle and Summer and Lacey and Brittany; and two sisters, Mary Ann Jones (George R.) Thomas of Radnor and Dorothy Jones (Clyde) Ward of Topeka, Kan
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home. The Rev. David Hoffman will officiate and burial of cremains will be at the Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be held at 5 p.m.
