Howard Decker
LARUE — Howard Decker, 80, of 120 N. Front St., LaRue, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at 4:30 a.m. at his residence.
He was born Sept. 20,1920, in Anneta, Ky., to the late Jasper and Fanny (Day) Decker.
On Dec. 21, 1940, he married Maxine Lashley and she survives.
Also surviving are seven sons, Ron (Marilyn) of Ken-ton, Royce (Donna) of Williamsburg, Va., Wendell (Karen) of Prospect, Ken (Gail) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bruce (Christinna) of Marion, Bryan (Laura) of LaRue and Bob (Julie) of Rantoul, 111.; five daughters, Gerie (Wayne Boyd of Rich-wood, Rita (Brian) Montgomery of Bluffton, Debbie (Bob) Lawrence of LaRue, Mary (Rodney) Armstrong of LaRue and Kathy Cochraon of Dover, Fla.; 37 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand-child. A son, William Bernard Decker, was killed in Vietnam in 1968. Grandson Joseph Decker and sister Millie Saltsman are deceased.
Mr. Decker was a farmer and also worked as a welder for Todco Overhead Door, was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy, member of the American Legion Post 605 of Waldo and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Stephen J. Chaney Post 7201 of Marion.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in LaRue. Rodney Armstrong will officiate. Burial will be in the Agosta Cemetery in New Bloomington. Friends may call at the funeral home in LaRue from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council and Chaplain Fred Eyster. Those who wish may make financial contributions to the family.
