Ruth C. Brelsford
Ruth C. Brelsford, a lifelong resident of Richwood, died Saturday Sept. 22, 2001, at Bay Breeze Nursing Home in Gulf Breeze, Fla.
She was a retired teacher, having taught for more than 37 years. Thirty years of that time was spent in the Richwood/North Union district. She was a member of the Richwood First United Methodist Church, Fortnightly Club, Richwood Civic Center, Mount Carmel Chapter 40 O.E.S. and Union County Retired Teachers Association.
She was born in Union County to the late Charles and Verna Hartman Chandler and was predeceased by a daughter, Helen Safko; a sister, Hazel Pfeiffer; and her husband, Paul R. "Red" Brelsford whom she married Nov. 25,1932.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary (Carl) Hertzer of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; five grandchildren, Mark Hertzer of Warren, Ann Fultz of Gulf Breeze, Andrea Bradley of Oakland Park, Fla., Paul Safko of Pensacola, Fla., and Thomas Safko of Dover, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where an Eastern Star service will be held at 4:45 p.m.
The family requests that instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church. 18 S, Fulton St., Richwood.
