Charles "Bert" Mead
Charles "Bert" Mead, 80, of Richwood died Tuesday, Dec. 18,2001, at Marion General Hospital.
He was a 1939 graduate of Richwood High School and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from the Boise Cascade Co. in Marion and was a member of the Richwood First United Methodist Church, International  Paper Workers Union 1313 and the former Richwood Lions Club. He was a life  member of DAV in Marysville, life member and past commander of Richwood VFW Post 870 and member and past commander of Baccarat American Legion Post 40. He had retired after years of service with the Richwood Fire Department. He had served the community as a past councilman, with the Richwood Police Department, the Union County Sheriff's Department and the Richwood  Fair Board. He had been active with the Claibourne PTA. After retiring, he worked at the Parish Thomasson Hardware Store in Richwood.
He was born June 5,1921, in Marion to the late Jesse J. and Starling D. White Mead. He was predeceased in 1953 by his first wife, Mabel Elliott whom he married in 1944.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. Skidmore Mead whom he married June 26, 1955, at the Richwood First United Methodist Church; a son, John (Pam) Mead of Richwood; a daughter, Lisa Robinson of Richwood; two grandchildren, Brooke and Joseph Mead; step-grandchildren, Mindy (Chad) Fitch and Meagan Patrick; step-great-grandchildren, Bryce, Blake and Brittany Fitch; and a brother, Richard C. (Lois) mead of Morristown, NJ.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne Cemetery where veteran's military services will be conducted by the Richwood VFW and American Legion Post. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richwood First United Methodist Church, 18 S. Fulton St., Richwood, or the Northern Union County Fife Association, 602 N. Franklin St.; Richwood.
