Joseph Edwin Appelfeller
LARUE — Joseph Edwin Appelfeller, age 81, of 134 N. Front St., LaRue, died Thursday, Dec. 27,2001, at Marion General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 13; 1920, in Mount Victory to the late Frank and Anna (Martino) Appelfeller.
On Nov. 24,1951, he married Mary E. Benson, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, John J. of Fort Worth, Texas, Mark B. of Louisville, Colo., and Matthew J. of LaRue; two daughters, Mrs. Julie A. (William P.) Gracely of Marion and Mrs. Marna J. (David L.) Salmons of Bellefontaine; one sister, Mrs. June E. (Robert) Jones of Bellefontaine; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry L. and Raymond L, and two sisters, Marjorie M. Keller and Myra J. Quelette.
Mr. Appelfeller was a retired sales rep for the Rose Chemical Co. A graduate of Mount Victory High School in 1938, he served on the Republican Central Committee in Marion County. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve as a major. He was a member of the Phillippi-Clement Post 101 American Legion of LaRue, the V.F.W. Post 870 of Richwood, the Reserve Officers Association (TROA) the Marine Corps Officers Association (MCROA), the Marine Corps Association (MCA), the Navy League of the U.S. and the China Marines.
Services and military rites will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 2:30 p.m. at the LaRue Cemetery. Father William Patterson will officiate and the military rites will be conducted by the Phillippi-Clement Post 101 American Legion of LaRue. After the service at the cemetery, the family will receive friends at Dry Lane Construction Party Center, 376 Dry Lane Road, LaRue.

Those who wish may make contributions to either the Marine Corps Reserve Toy for Tots or St. Joseph Church.
