Lawrence Glenn Fields
LARUE — Lawrence Glenn Fields, age 85, of 215 E. Market St., LaRue, died Sunday morning, March 10, 2002, at his residence.
He was born June 6, 1916, in LaRue, to the late Samuel Wilton and Ethel (Ledley) Fields.
On April 13,1940, he married Ruth Eleanor Cleveland and she died Aug. 23,1983.
He is survived by three sons, Lawrence D. (Judy) Fields of LaRue, Philip L. (Kathy) Fields of Upper Sandusky, and Scott C. (Deb) Fields of Mansfield; eight grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Lester R. Fields of Mesa, Ariz., and Paul A. Fields of LaRue.
Brother, Keith Fields and a stepbrother, Damon Leffler are deceased.
Mr. Fields was a professional painter and also worked in the maintenance department at the Marion Correctional Institution (MCI). After his retirement, he was still active at MCI with the Kairos program, the Horizon movement and the inside/outside Brother program. He was a member of the LaRue United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, held many other offices in the church. He loved to travel having traveled to all 50 states. He also traveled abroad as a painter in the Methodist churches missionary program and worked in Columbia, Slovakia, Moscow, Ireland and Tokyo. A member of the LaRue Lodge 463 F & AM, he loved to read and was active in the OhioReads Program and also helped with the reading program at Elgin West Elementary School. He helped compile the history of the LaRue United Methodist Church and also the history of LaRue. He worked with Mobile Meals for the past five years and also worked with Alcoholics Anonymous programs at MCI.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 17, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the LaRue United Methodist Church. Minister will be the Rev, Edward W. Fugate. There will be no calling hours.
Those who wish may make contributions to the mission program at the LaRue United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are in charge of the Stofcheck Funeral Home in LaRue.
