Gerald Maurice "Buddy" Starks
Gerald Maurice "Buddy" Starks, 61, of rural Richwood died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at his home surrounded by his family following a 20-month battle with cancer.
He retired in 2000 from the Scotts Company in Marysville after 20 years of service. He served in the Army Reserves, was a member of the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Marysville and was a very talented handyman, helping many people in the area with all sorts of jobs had previously owned and oper-ated Stark Body Shop in Marion.
some of the joys in his life were his horses, Bud and Bill, with  buggy. Some people in the area called him the "black Amishman." He also enjoyed the outdoors, farming and being with his family.
He was born Dec. 25, 1940, in Cincinnati to Lee West and Margaret Todd Starks and was predeceased by his father and a brother. Tommy Starks.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Sims Starks whom he married Aug. 6, 1960, in Marion; his mother of Raymond; two daughters, Eugenia Anne (Fred Carson) Biggs of Springfield and Tracey Lynne (Jerry) Tucker of Dayton; a son, Robbin Maurice (Terry) Starks of Dayton; three grandchildren, Marcus Biggs, Tameka Cheeks and Jerald Cheeks; a great-grandson, Devon Maurice Biggs; four brothers, the Rev. Lee (Lisa) Starks of Marion, Jeffrey (Sonya) Starks and Ted Starks of Raymond, Greg (Chris) Starks of Richwood; a sister, Maxine Corley of Columbus; and special friends, Don (Bev) Barnes and Frank (Dot) Henson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Marion. The Rev. Wallace Hazard will officiate and burial will be at the York Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Rich-wood.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tricare Hospice in care of the funeral home.
