Hugh Ridge Jr.. 77. of rural Richwood died unexpectedly Thursday July 18, 2002, at Marion General Hospital.
He worked as a farmer until 1960 when he became executive director of the Union County A.S.C.S. office. In 1978 he became a state price support specialist, retiring in 1985. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Marysville and the Richwood Civic Center where he was formerly a board member. He was very talented and well-known as a grapevine maker and he enjoyed gardening. The true joys of his life were his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was born June 20. 1925, in Gilboa to the late Hugh and Tenah Emans Ridge Sr. andwas predeceased by an infant son, Ronald Hugh Ridge; a son-in-law, Ronald Cunningham; a grandson, Christopher Cunningham; and two brothers, Park and Dwight Ridge.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Brown Ridge whom he married Nov. 3,1944. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LaRue; three daughters, Toby Cunningham of Marysville, Laurie (Mike) Goddard of Richwood and Barbara (Duane) Kavanagh of Richwood; eight grandchildren Chad (Melissa) Cunningham, Curt (Lisa) Cunningham, Carrie Cun-ningham, Amy (Jeff) Price, Molly (Marc) Mendoza and Brooke, Abby and Drew Goddard: two great-grandchildren. Nicholas Price and Keaton Cunningham; sisters and brothers, Wilella (Eloy) Sanchez of California. Paul (Jane) Ridge of Florida and Carol Oberdier, Ralph (Helen) Ridge and Richard (Beverly) Ridge of Richwood; a sister-in-law, Margaret Jane (Stanley) Beery of Richwood; and a brother-in-law, Paul Brown of Richwood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The Rev. Barry Bentz will officiate and burial will be at the Claiboume Cemetery where veteran graveside services will be conducted. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home where a Rosary Service will be held at 2 p.m.
