Doris Lumpkin Murray
MARION — Doris Lumpkin Murray, of Marion, formerly o Richwood, died unexpectedl early Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, a her home.
S,he was born in Logan Coun ty to Erdean Gamble and thei raised by Ray and Ida Albert.
Doris was a 1949 graduate of the New Bloom-ington High School, active and dedicated member of the Central United Methodist Murray Church in Rich-wood. She had worked for the North Union School district as the superintendent's secretary then for Ohio Edison as a line clerk, from where she retired.
Doris volunteered at Marion General Hospital, loved the Cincinnati Reds. She and her family attended many spring training games in Florida. She was also active with world missions. Most of all, Doris was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her entire family.
She was first married to Orval Lumpkins in 1956, and he died in March of 1977; she then married John R. Murray in 1984, and he died in September of 1994. Also preceding her in death was her oldest son, Rodney Lumpkins.
Surviving is one son, Jeff (Paige) Lumpkins of Greenville; stepchildren, Mark (Jenny) Murray of Columbus, Dale (Sharol) Herr of Marion, John (Mary) Murray Jr. of Delaware, Frank Murray of Arlington, Texas, Bob (Margie) Herr of Marion, Mike Herr, Susan Austin of Toledo, Joyce Leslein of Reynoldsburg, and Val (Mike) Bates of Pataskala; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Richwood with the Revs. Bryan Lazau and Allan Ocampo officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. Burial will be in the Claibourne Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Humane Society at 2264 Richland Road, Marion, OH 43302 or to the Humane Society in your area. This is in keeping with Doris' love of animals.
