Earl Lee Simmons
Flag Earl Lee Simmons, 82, of 149 W. Bomford St., Richwood died Sunday, Sept.
12, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
He was born Feb. 15, 1922, on Sivey Road in Claibourne Township to the
late Herbert Lee and Willmetta Brown Simmons. On Dec. 20, 1969, he
married Lavaria R. Smith and she died March 9, 1993.
Survivors include a son, Dan L. (Carol) Simmons of Delaware; four
stepsons, William H. Reese, Richard E. (Barbara) Reese and Gary L.
Reese, all of Richwood and Robert W. Reese of Marion; two stepdaughters,
Sue A. (Jacob) Sarver and Cindy K. Smith, both of Richwood; two
grandchildren, Kurtis L. (Samantha) Simmons of Marysville and Amanda J.
(Corey) Mays of Delaware; 10 step-grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and 28 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Harold B. (Ruth) Simmons of Richwood and Gail F. Simmons of West Palm
Beach, Fla.; and two nephews, Stuart A. Simmons of Dayton and Donald B.
(Carole) Simmons of Kentucky.
He was a member of the Richwood First Baptist Church and attended the
Claibourne and Richwood school systems. A welder, farmer and
housepainter, he was a U.S. Army veteran in World War II, serving at
Camp Butner, N.C.; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Myers,
Fla.; and Barksdale Field in Shreveport, La.
Friends may call at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood Tuesday from
5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home
with the Rev. Barb Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Claibourne
Cemetery with graveside military rites to be conducted by Richwood VFW
Post 870 and Richwood American Legion Post 40.
Memorials may be made to either the Richwood First Baptist Church or
Loving Care Hospice of Union County
