Robert Ernest Beckel
Flag LARUE — Robert Ernest Beckel, 20 E. Market St., LaRue, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at 2 p.m. at his residence.
He was born June 24,1919, in Marion County, to the late Harry and Lydia (Ebert) Beckel.
He was a graduate of York Center High School in 1937. He was a pattern maker and co-owner and president of B & C Patterns in Marion. He was a member of the LaRue Baptist Church, the LaRue Lodge 463 F&AM, Mary Lenox Chapter 98 Order of Eastern Star of which he was the grand chaplain of the Grand Chapter of Ohio in 1999. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.
In 1941, he married Harriet Snow and she died in 1978. They were parents of two daughters, Roberta (Steve) Thompson of Las Vegas and Linda (Bill) Gruhler of Georgia.
In 1979, he married Mary (Mathena) Berry and he has two stepsons, Michael (Sok Im) Berry of Marion and Richard (Debra) Berry of Holgate. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Clyde (Ruth) Beckel of Richwood and one sister, Naomi (John) Wyatt of California.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, William Berry, and two brothers, Frank Beckel and James Beckel.
Bob was a man who lived his faith daily. He was a soft spoken, hard working, honest man and will be missed by his many friends and family.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 27,2004, at 11 a.m. at the LaRue Baptist Church. Minister will be the Rev. Tim Pasma. Burial in the Caledonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in LaRue from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. There will be graveside military rites conducted by the Marion Area Veterans Council.
Those who wish may make contributions to either the LaRue Baptist Church or the Quality of Life Hospice.
