Maxine Vivian Daugherty
Maxine Vivian Daugherty, 89, passed away at her home August 2, 2004 in Sun City, Arizona.  She was born May 20, 1915 in West Virginia to the late Tilmon A. and Lucy M. (Jividen) Bowles.  She married Lester D. Daugherty November 5, 1932 and he survives.  She moved to Ohio in 1937 and lived in Morrow County for 10 years.  She then moved to Prospect in 1947 and resided there until 1999 when she relocated to Sun City, Arizona.

Maxine worked at Curtis Wright Corp. in Columbus building fighter planes during WWII.  After the war, she worked in the medical field and in 1956 graduated in the first LPN class to be given in Marion.  She then worked at the Smith Clinic and did private duty in area hospitals.  She loved traveling, tending her flowers and caring for cats.

While in Prospect, she was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Pythian Sisters and the nursing association.

Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Mrs. Peggy (Thomas) Knickel of Sun City West, Arizona; Mrs. Pauline Oehler of Sun City West, Arizona and Dr. Carolyn Daughtery of Flagstaff, Arizona.

She also is survived by three grandchildren, Cheryl Oehler of Peoria, Arizona; Kimberly (David) Hoffman of Litchfield Park, Arizona and Russell (Catherine) Oehler of Tigard, Oregon.  Her great grandchildren are Justin, Grayson and Dominic Oehler and Ian Hoffman.  Her brother Clifton (Audrey) Bowles survives in West Virginia as well as several nieces and nephews.  A brother, Alvin Kenton Bowles, preceded her in death.

She was a loving wife and mother and will be sadly missed by all of her family.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 PM Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Prospect United Methodist Church with the Rev. David L. Hoffman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Sun Health Hospice, 12740 N. Plaza del Rio Blvd., Peoria, Arizona  85381.  Condolences may be sent to 15215 N. Agua Fria Drive, Sun City, Arizona  85351.
