Henry W. Shiera
Henry W. Shiera, 90, of the Milcrest Nursing Center, died Friday, Jan.
2, 2004.
He was a longtime resident of the Richwood area and former caretaker of
the Claibourne Cemetery near Richwood. He had lived at Milcrest for the
past eight years. He served in the United States Army from January 1943
to March 1946, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory
Medal and American Campaign Medal. He was qualified as a sharpshooter
with the M-l rifle and served as a supply clerk, receiving the grade of
corporal. He was a model railroader, avid crossword puzzle enthusiast
and bingo competitor and was active in the Richwood Civic Center in his
years of residence there.
He was born June 9, 1913, in LaRue to the late Matthew and Melinda
VanBuskirk Shiera and was predeceased by sisters, Frieda Jerew, Leona
Kull, Ethel, Lilly and Alma; a brother, Fred; and his first wife, Anna
Mae Orahood Shiera, the mother of their son. He married Katherine Benson
Cicanese, whose son, Roland, lived with the couple, and she died in
1980. His third wife, Frances Easterday Shiera, died in 1996.
He is survived by a son, Larry (Connie) of Virginia Beach, Va.; four
grandchildren, Donald Ray, Carolyn Ann Baxter, Darrell William and
Catherine Lynn Archer; a niece, Anna Nichols; step-grandchildren, John
Cicanese and Teresa Randels of Florida; and numerous
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Fulton
Cemetery in Morrow County with the Rev. Fred Cheney officiating. Friends
may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Ballinger Funeral Home in
Richwood.
