Thelma Preston
Thelma Preston, 84 went to be with her Lord and Savior April 24, 2005 at Memorial Hospital of Union County after a massive stroke. She was born December 27, 1920 at St Johns, IL to Frank Runyon and Delia Nickelson.
She married Howard Ramsey Preston May 7, 1939. He preceded her in death in December, 1994. She was a resident of Richwood for 52 years, previously living in DuQuoin, Ill She graduated from DuQuoin Township High School in 1939. For the last year, she lived at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Marysville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richwood where she was a member of the Mission Circle, and for a time attended Grace Baptist church in Marion. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years at the Richwood church.
Her family meant everything to her. She loved homemaking, cooking for her family, family get-togethers, and traveling. She also enjoyed quilting and made quilts for her children. She volunteered for Red Cross at their local blood drives for many years. She enjoyed serving as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts while her sons were growing up and she worked at the Union County election board. She worked at the Richwood IGA food store for several years after her sons were grown.
She is survived by three sons: Howard Jr. (Karen) of Durango, CO, David (Laureen) of Livonia, MI, and Dan (Dondra) of Radnor, OH, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and her sister Mabel Bailey, DuQuoin, IL
Friends and family may visit the Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood on Tuesday, April 26 from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27 at 11:00 AM in the Richwood Baptist church with Rev. Gerald Bentley officiating. Burial will be in Claibourne Cemetery.
