Jared Theodore "Jerry" Monson
Flag Jared Theodore "Jerry" Monson, 91, of Radnor, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at the Medical Center of McKinney.Texas.
He attended schools in Essex and Richwood and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1939.
From 1939 to 1942, he worked in Washington, DC, as did his wife Rachel. Starting in 1943, he served 2 1/2 years during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a bomb site and automatic pilot technical specialist. He sewed in Italy and Brazil before returning home. He was awarded seven battle stars for his military service.
After the war he farmed for 35 years on Troy Road near Radnor. He also was a former Marlboro Township trustee.
He retired from farming in 1981, and he and his wife spent the last 26 years in Texas with family close by. He enjoyed walleye fishing and woodworking.
He was a member of Waldo United Methodist Church.
Mr. Monson was bom Oct. 11, 1915, in Union County, the son of the late Theodore M. and Florence Temple Monson. He also was predeceased by a son, Lynn Monson; three sisters, Margaret Dreyer, Dorothy Rush and Starling Collins; and three brothers, Ted, Granville and Merritt Monson
On Dec. 28, 1940, he married Rachel B. Reeley and she survives in Radnor. Also surviving are one son. David Monson of near Dallas; grandsons. Erik, Layne and Jacob, all of Dallas, and Jereme of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Victoria and Matthew.
Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Pastor Bruce Vincent will officiate; burial will be in Price Cemetery, Essex.
Pallbearers will be David, Erik, Layne, Jacob, Jereme and John Monson, a nephew.
Memorial donations may be made to the Waldo United Methodist Church, 141 S. Marion St., Waldo. OH 43356.
