Rev. Earl A. Cosand
Cross The Rev. Earl A. Cosand, 90, died Sunday morning, May 14,2006, at the Spring Meadows Health Care Center at Woodstock where he had been residing.
He was retired as pastor at the Somersville Friends Church where he faithfully served for 27 years. He was also a finishing carpenter for 45 years.
He was a quiet gentle man who was quick to laugh and full of faith, having served as a minister for most of his life, he left a legacy of spiritual inheritance which is rooted deep within many hearts. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters during summer visits by picking strawberries, playing cards and board games, driving around the countryside, and riding in the go-cart he built. He also had the privilege of meeting and spending time with his four great-grandsons, to whom he showed much affection and love.
There are many things for which he will be fondly remembered, but most of all is the way he lived a life of serving others selflessly and without complaint. Blessed be his memory.
He was born May 26,1915, in Lupton, Mich., to the late Albert and Hat-ie Small Cosand. He married Margaret A. Stanley in 1939, and she died in 1993. He also was predeceased by his only son, David A. Cosand; four brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are two granddaughters, Ilse (Aaron) Olson of Dawson, Minn., and their four sons, Hunter, Gavin, Micah and Levi, and Heida (Brenden) Carey of Litchfield, Ariz.; a brother, Alfred Cosand of Roseville, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Violet Cosand of Roseville, Mich.; a brother-in-law, Gene Rader of Springfield; and a very special niece and caregiver of many years, Patty (Gary) Phillips of North Lewisburg. The deceased and his wife considered her to be the daughter they never had.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 pm. at the Goshen Friends Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Zanesfield Cemetery, with Pastors George Freer and Fred Kensler officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Somersville Friends Church.
