Joan L. Cox
Joan L. Cox, 71, of Magnetic Springs, died Monday evening, April 3, 2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A homemaker, she had worked at Ranco in Delaware, and had previously worked at the former Magnetic Springs Hotels: The Conrad, The Ballard, The Park and had managed The Incor Hotel.
Her life was her family. She was very protective of her children and grandchildren; people did not mess with them or her. She was a hard worker all of her life; she also took care of shut-ins and saw that they had good holiday meals.
She used to raise chickens and turkeys.
She was born July 7, 1934, in Delaware County, to the late Edgar and Ernestine Halley Freeman. She also was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Cox; a daughter-in-law, Karen Cox; a sister, Goldie Handley; and brothers, Gene Saunders and Charles Freeman.
On Jan. 16, 1954, in Richmond, Ind., she married Ted L. Cox and he survives. Also surviving are her children, Martha (Bob) Johnson of Newark, Cindy (Rex) Pierce and Debbie Cox Lutz of Magnetic Springs, and Leo (Tracy) Cox and Jim (Brenda) Cox of Marysville; 11 grandchildren, Adam and Matt Kater, Garrett and Nicole Pierce, Annie and Andrew Lutz and Michael, Austin, Conner, Ted and Tess Cox; six great-grandchildren; and sisters and a brother: Mary Tred-way of Kenton, June (Gene) McCarty of Magnetic Springs, and George (Mary Jane) Freeman of Hudson, Fla.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery, with the Rev. Mo Dunn officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at 1105 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, Ohio 43302.
