Dr. Charles William Holcomb
Flag  Dr. Charles William Holcomb, 84, of Richwood,
died  Saturday,  March  31,  2007, at Riverside
Methodist Hospital in Columbus, after a short ill-
ness.
 He attended West Virginia  Wesleyan College in
Buckhannon, W.Va., and was accepted in the Unit-
ed States Navy V-12 Program, entering West Vir-
ginia University  Medical School.  On completion
of the two-year program, he completed his medical requirements at
the Medical College of  Virginia in Richmond, Va., where he was
president of his senior class and a member of Phi Chi Medical Fra-
ternity.
 Upon graduation from  medical school, Dr. Holcomb was commis-
sioned lieutenant junior  grade in the United States Navy and was
stationed at the United States Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
After completion of his  internship, he was assigned as destroyer
squadron medical officer and served on a number of ships in the
South Atlantic, South America and along the East Coast of _the Unit-
ed States. He was discharged from the service in 1949.
 Dr. Holcomb and his wife Barbara moved to Richwood in  1951,
where he practiced general medicine until his retirement in Decem-
ber 1989.
 Dr. Holcomb was  a 50-year member of the Marion Academy of
Medicine, the Ohio State Medical Association, and  the American
Academy of Medicine. He was a  member  of the medical staff at
Marion  General Hospital for  the same number of years. He served
on the first board of trustees of the Marion  Health Maintenance
Organization.
 Dr. Holcomb served the community in other significant ways. He
was  a 35-year appointee  to the Union County Board of Health. He
was  a member and president of the Richwood Local Board of Edu-
cation and  the North Union Local Board of Education during the
period of consolidation and planning for the new high school. He
served as chief of medical staff at the Charles B. Mills Center in
Marysville. After retirement, he served on the Richwood Civic Cen-
ter Board as member and president
 He was born Dec. 10,1922, in Sutton, W. Va., to the late Otto Lory
and Myrtle Morrison Holcomb. He also was preceded  in death by
three brothers, Jerry, John and James.
 Surviving are his wife Barbara Boggs Holcomb whom he married
Dec. 23,1950, in  Sutton,  W. Va.; two sons, Dr. James W. (Judy) Hol-
comb of Flowery Branch, Ga., and Timothy B. Holcomb of Indi-
anapolis; three daughters, Ann Holcomb of New York City, and
Sally (Joseph) Wiley  and Mary (Michael) Price of Richwood; nine
grandchildren, Elizabeth and Amy Holcomb, Jennifer and Cory Hol-
comb, Sarah, Mark and Lauren Wiley and William and Taylor Price;
one brother, Robert  L. Holcomb of Nashville, Tenn.; and  several
nieces and nephews.
 A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Richwood
First United Methodist Church, where the family will receive callers
from 5 p.m. until  the time of the service. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will
officiate. Internment will  take place in West  Virginia at a later date.
 Memorial contributions may  be made to  the  First  United
Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 18 S. Fulton St. Richwood, OH
43344 and the Richwood  Civic Center and R.E.A.P., both located at
235 Grove St. Richwood, OH 43344.

DR HOLCOMB WAS MY" earthly savior "If it wasn't  for him,I would never have made it through life!!
His caring,direction,and "constructive advise" made me strong enough to make it without him !!
 "NO" DR HAS EVER MEASURED UP TO HIM 🙏
