He was born June 1, 1947 in Salyersville, Ky. To the late James Melvin and Iretta (Conley) Penix, he was also preceded in death by two sons: Robert Dean and Roy Melvin Penix Jr., siblings: Ed Penix, Hilda Faye Gilliam and Loretta Evans
