Tommie Jean Timmons
We are saddened to announce the passing of Tommie Jean Timmons, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who peacefully joined the Lord on January 30, 2024, after a brief illness.
Born in Wayland, Kentucky, on December 18, 1951, to the late Thurman and Freda Turner, Tommie was the cherished middle daughter in a family of five girls. Her early life in Kentucky laid the foundation for her strong family values and sense of community.
The Turner family's relocation to Marion was a turning point, where Tommie attended Harding High School and later met her soulmate, Larry Timmons. Their marriage was a testament to love and unity, with Larry embracing her two children, Gerald (Heidi) Nash and Anita (Greg) Edmonstone as his own. The family grew with the birth of Richie Timmons in January of 1988, further solidifying their bond.
Tommie's world was rocked by Larry's untimely death in November of 1988, yet she bravely continued to nurture their children with unwavering strength and devotion.
Tommie's life was a vibrant tapestry of relationships and community service. Her deep connections and love with the Amish community, her attendance at local high school sports games, and her active role in Marion County's 4-H Horse and Swine programs reflected her passion for nurturing and growth. Tommie's garden, a sanctuary of beauty and care, symbolized her belief in the power of love and nurturing.
She is survived by her loving children, Gerald, Anita, and Richie, and her adored granddaughter, Gracelyn Edmonstone. Tommie's legacy of love and laughter remains a source of comfort and inspiration. Her surviving sisters, Sheila (Doug) Quick and Vickie (Bob) Tanner carry on her spirit, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters Donna Butler and Kathy Bentley.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue, Pastor Corey Carroll will officiate. Burial will follow in the Chapel Heights Memory Gardens in Marion where she will rest beside her beloved Larry. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home in LaRue.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Jan, Nikki and the staff at Marion Pointe Nursing Home and to the staff of Gentiva Hospice with a special thanks to Hanna for her compassionate care and support during Tommie's final days.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Elgin High School Sports Booster program. This gesture honors her dedication to supporting young athletes, a commitment mirrored in Gracelyn’s active participation in school sports. Donations can be directed to the softball or basketball program, as per your choice written on the memo line.
Tommie's extraordinary life, filled with humor, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community, leaves an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for her boundless love and the joy she brought to so many lives.
