n June 6, 1944 (D-Day).  Later in the European Theatres, Loren fought in the Battle of the Bulge at the Huertgen Forest.  For his valor in combat, he was awarded, among other medals, the Bronze Star Medal (Second Oak-Leaf Cluster).  He received an honorable discharge and came home.
