With tears in my eyes and heart, I just want to share my fondest memories of my cousin, Melva. I have known and loved her all my life. Our family spent many Christmas Eves at her home, enjoying her homemade cookies and candy. She was a great cook! When my daughter-in-law and I wanted to learn to make noodles, she gave us a complete demonstration and shared how she had once made noodles for a school function and had made so many that they were spread out all over the house to dry. Most recently, I enjoyed spending afternoons with Melva and her sister, Janis, talking about growing up in Richwood in the early days. I heard about their adventures then, such as knocking over an outhouse at Halloween  and running to get away before they got caught. Their brother had to throw Janis over a fence because she couldn’t climb over fast enough. They had many adventures all their lives, traveling to Ireland was one. They were as close as 2 sisters can be. I loved hearing them talk and will cherish my time spent with them as long as I live. (Janis, I will still and always will love visiting with you). Melva loved Richwood and wrote an  excellent article about it for the Gazette not so long ago. She was outspoken, but you always knew where she stood. My Mom (Melva’sAunt) always said that Melva had a heart of gold and she did.

I have lost a dear friend.  Spencer and I went to school together. When I was born in January before Spencer in February, Melva sent my Mom a congratulations letter about being a new mother and it meant so much to my Mom that it is in my baby book.  In later years we started going to NU basketball, football and softball games as we both love sports.  We enjoyed going to     shows at the Palace and to Scott's 20 Year Club events with me. When I  would be in town I would swing by to just stop in and say Hi.  She called me her "Ohio daughter" since Connie lived out of state.  She filled a void in my life after my Mom passed away and we had a good time together.  I knew during March Madness you didn't want to interrupt her games!  Fond memories of a life well lived.  She loved her family and was always sharing what they were doing.  You were so blessed to be her family.

The Class of 1960 has sadly lost another Mother. We were fortunate to have had several mothers to watch over us throughout the years. Few classmates were as loved. We cherish the memories.
