Timothy E. Meyer
Timothy E. MeyerAntiquesTimothy E. Meyer, 68, of Prospect passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at home. He battled polymyositis, an auto immune disease that attacked his muscles, for four years.  He always had a positive attitude and never complained.

Tim was born September 10, 1947 in Troy to the late Louis and Nonie (Horton) Meyer.  He married Jean Schmidt on May 31, 1977 in Marion and she survives in Prospect.  He is also survived by a son, Greg, his wife Alicia and granddaughter Kayla, all of Marysville; a brother, Thomas (Peggy) Meyer, Dayton; a sister, Nonie (Danny) Chick, Powell; and many nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are brother-in-law, Jack (Barb) Schmidt; sister-in-law, Jill (John) Black, all of Arizona.

Tim was a graduate of Troy High School, The Ohio State University, and the University of Illinois.  He spent many years helping others, first as a probation officer, then as a drug and alcohol counselor at Marion Correctional Institution, and 25 years as a clinical social worker before “retiring” to deliver auto parts.

Tim loved his family.  He was happiest helping his son with projects at his home, working on his own home, or spending time in his garden and flower beds.  He also enjoyed antiquing, adding to his many collections, or finding a piece in the rough and restoring it.

He loved to vacation in Florida, and even though he was a diehard Buckeye fan, he enjoyed northern Michigan’s beauty and always brought home a bottle of cherry wine.

A celebration of life service will be Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 6:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Steve Whitaker officiating.  Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service, beginning at 4:00 PM.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Troy at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be made to the National Organization of Rare Disorders (rarediseases.org), 55 Kenosia Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810.  Please specify that your donation be placed in the Polymyositis Fund.

Jean and Greg. Like I told you before, he was one of the most genuine, kind and gentle people I have known. I am proud to have been able to call him friend. God bless.

I am so sorry for your loss. My fondest memories of Tim are from our childhood at Wayne Lakes...where we swam, played in the canoe and rowboats, rode bikes, and found shelter for cards and board games when it rained. For three months each year we were practically inseparable...Tim, Tom, Steve, and I. Sometimes we even "let" the little girls join us (Chris and Nonie Lou) but not very often. For some years Carol and Robin Wright were part of the gang (and Nancy one of the "little" girls). I cherish those memories and find it difficult to believe 50+ years have passed. My hope for Tim is that he is at peace with his health restored and that we will all be together again someday.
