Sharon F. Schmelzer
Sharon F. SchmelzerCrossSharon F. Schmelzer 71 of Richwood, received her ultimate healing on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2015 at Heartland of Marion where she has lived for the past few years.
She had courageously endured the effects of MS for over 27 years.

Sharon was born July 2, 1943 in Marion to the late Fay & Mabel (Miller) Riley. She was a 1961 graduate of Harding High School. Sharon worked as a sales clerk for the former Spain's Five and Dime, Speyer’s dime store and the Ben Franklin Store in Richwood. When she retired in 1995 she became an Avon representative, which helped add to her collection of bells, cherished teddies, angels, and butterflies.

Sharon grew up in the Home Missionary Holiness Church helping to teach Sunday school and children’s church. Later years she became a member of the State Street CCCU where she loved teaching Jr. Church. In 1985 Sharon became a part of the Marion First Church of the Nazarene until she was physically unable to go. Sharon served God with an unfailing zeal, reaching others for the kingdom.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are Robert M. Schmelzer, her husband of 51 years whom she married on July 2, 1963 (on her 20th birthday). She also leaves sons Michael (Rhonda) Schmelzer of Richwood, and Kevin (Lovetta) Schmelzer of Marion; 6 grandchildren Ashley Schmelzer, Shaynna (David) Butcher, Paul Schmelzer, Pamela Schmelzer (Joe Hodges), Jaron Schmelzer, Chelsey (Nate) Jones; great grandson Andrew Hodges of Richwood; Father-in-law, Robert (Dorothy) Schmelzer of Richwood; sister Nina Whitt of Marion; sisters-in-law Jennie Riley of Marion and JoNeil Blanton of Richwood; and brothers-in-law Robert (Joanne) Long of De Graff, and Brent Thompson of Jackson, Mississippi; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Fay & Mabel Riley, a brother Richard Riley, sisters Wanda Long, Hazel Temple, and Rebecca Thompson and brothers-in-law, Joseph Temple, Edwin Whitt and Harold Blanton, as well as her best friend and mother in-law Florine Schmelzer.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 12:00 noon at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene under the direction of Pastor Don Diehl. Friends may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Claibourne Cemetery.
