Steve L. Ballinger
Steve L. BallingerOld BlueSteve L. Ballinger, 66 of Marion, died Monday morning, April 28, 2014 at home.  He was born July 19, 1947 in Kenton to the late Bertice Carl and Phyllis Ann (Miller) Ballinger.

On April 9, 1967 he married the former Becky Grose in the Pharisburg United Methodist Church, and she survives.

A 1966 graduate of North Union High School, he was a self-employed carpet installer for 44 years.  Steve loved his job and cherished the relationships he made.  He was a perfectionist and it showed in his work, gaining him a reputation as the most sought-after carpet installer in the area.  He never wanted to stop working.

He was a member of the Richwood First United Methodist Church, and in his later years, enjoyed attending church and reading the Bible.  Steve enjoyed shooting pool, weight-lifting and just enjoyed physical exercise.  He especially loved taking care of “Old Blue,” his work van.  His children and grandchildren were the most important thing to Steve and brought him a great deal of joy.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Todd (Annie) Ballinger, Bellefontaine; his daughter, Lori (Donny) Connor, Gahanna; his grandchildren, Tanner, Ryan, Kacy and Ally; brother, David L. Ballinger, Marion; and sister, Roxane (Jeffery) Miller, Beverly Hills, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard M. Ballinger.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Richwood First United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call Wednesday, April 30, 2014 from 4 to 7 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood.

Memorial gifts may be made to Richwood First United Methodist Church, 18 South Fulton Street, Richwood, OH  43344 or Acclaim Hospice, 1199 Delaware Ave, Marion, OH  43302.

I am so sorry to hear about Steve.  We were so close in school and, although the miles and years separated us, he was so often in my thoughts and prayers. I cannot think of Steve without smiling about some of the thins we used to do together.
It is special the way you can feel so close to someone in your heart without being near them.  I am praying for Becky and the children in this time of hurting and healing.  I too, like Steve, take comfort in reading God's Word every day.  His promises to us are what keeps me going when life is difficult.

To the Ballinger Family- I am sorry to hear about Steve's passing. One of my fondest memories of Steve that sticks out and will always remember was him smiling and stretching out his arm to wave as he would drive past our old yellow house on Water St. in his old blue van. I always said him and my Dad were brothers from different mothers sporting long hair and beards and so down to earth. Such a sweet guy, going to miss him. Not a goodbye, but a see you later my friend!
